Chad Henne passed for 182 yards, with no interceptions. Running Back Ronnie Brown averaged 5 yards per carry. The Dolphins managed to put together 19 first downs. Brandon Marshall, Dolphins Wide Receiver, had eight receptions which totaled only 53 yards. Except for Ronnie Brown, Miami had an aweful day offensively, compared to other teams yesterday.
So how did they manage to win? What was their secret? Yes, it was Defense! Brandon Fields, the Dolphins Punter, was deadly accurate. The Miami Dolphins defense sacked Buffalo Quarterback Trent Edwards, who threw for 193 yards yesterday. They also picked off a couple of passes and recovered a fumble from Tight End Robert Royal, after a 20 yard completion. Miami held the Bills to only nine first downs. Whenever Buffalo had an opportunity to take control of the game, the Miami defense would rise to the occasion.
Teams, since 1978, that win the first game of the season are twice as likely to make the playoffs.
